Linear displacement sensor 4–20 mA / 0–10 V | Novotechnik TE1

Short-stroke potentiometric transducer with direct analog output for PLC, strokes from 25 to 150 mm and versions with stem or spring-loaded probe

He TE1 of Novotechnik it's a potentiometric linear displacement sensor with 4–20 mA or 0–10 V analog output, designed to absolutely measure the position, stroke or displacement of linear mechanisms.

Unlike a conventional linear potentiometer, the TE1 incorporates the signal conditioning electronics in the sensor itself. This allows it to be connected directly to compatible analog inputs of PLCs, indicators, recorders and data acquisition systems, without the need to install an external transmitter.

It is available with tours of 25, 50, 75, 100 and 150 mm. It can be selected with stem and ball coupling or like linear probe with return spring; This latest version is available up to 100 mm.

Applications of the 4–20 mA and 0–10 V linear displacement sensor

The TE1 allows you to directly obtain an analog signal proportional to the position of the stem, making it particularly suitable for displacement measurement, stroke control and position feedback via PLC.

Industrial machinery and automation

  • Absolute measurement of position and displacement.
  • Linear mechanism stroke control.
  • Position feedback via PLC analog inputs.
  • Packaging and automation machines.
  • Riveting and welding machines.
  • Woodworking machinery.

Test benches and measuring systems

  • Displacement measurement during mechanical tests.
  • Verification of races and final positions.
  • Combined measurement with force, pressure, torque or other magnitudes.
  • Mounting, control and verification devices.

Measurement using a probe

The execution with return dock It allows the TE1 to be used as a displacement probe to follow profiles, cams, surfaces, parts or mechanisms where contact must be maintained by the force of the spring itself.

Linear sensor with stem or spring-loaded probe

Version 101 · stem with ball coupling

The stemmed version is available in travel lengths of 25 to 150 mm. The ball coupling allows compensation for misalignments of up to ±1 mm parallel and ±2.5° angular, reducing the transmission of lateral forces to the sensor.

The stem is guided at both ends and supports travel speeds of up to 10 m/s.

Version 102 · spring probe

The feeler version incorporates return spring, anti-rotation system and contact tip with carbide ball. It is available for travels of 25, 50, 75 and 100 mm.

The tip uses a thread. M2,5, allowing the use of compatible probe tips. The Novotechnik Z-R50 roller tip is also available as an accessory.

4–20 mA or 0–10 V output for direct connection to PLC

The TE1 integrates the necessary electronic conditioning to provide a industrial analog signal directly proportional to the displacement.

  • Code 411: 0–10 V output.
  • Code 412: 10–0 V output.
  • Code 421: 4–20 mA output.
  • Code 422: output 20–4 mA.

Voltage versions require a load greater than 10 kΩ. Current versions support a load less than 500 Ω.

The food is from 16 to 30 VDC and the no-load consumption is less than 1 W. The electronics incorporate protection against short circuits, reverse polarity and overvoltages.

Signal direction

In the executions 411 and 421, With the stem extended, the output is 0 V or 4 mA and increases when the stem is inserted.

The executions 412 and 422 They provide the inverse behavior: with the stem extended the output corresponds to 10 V or 20 mA and decreases when it is inserted.

M8x1 connector or 2-meter shielded cable

The sensor can be supplied with two electrical connection configurations:

  • Code 101: M8x1 3-pin axial connector.
  • Code 202: 3-wire shielded PVC cable, 2 m long.

M8 connector assignment

  • Pin 1: Ub food.
  • Pin 4: analog output.
  • Pin 3: Common GND.

For installations with M8 connectors, straight and angled shielded cables are available. 2, 5 and 10 meters.

The total cable length must not exceed 30 m. The screen must be grounded on the controller side, and the power and signal must share the same reference potential.

Frequently Asked Questions about TE1 Displacement Sensors
Does the TE1 directly provide a 4–20 mA output?

Yes. Signal code 421 provides a rising output of 4–20 mA, and code 422 provides a falling output of 20–4 mA. The conditioning electronics are integrated into the sensor.

Is there a version with a 0–10 V output?

Yes. Code 411 provides 0–10 V and code 412 provides 10–0 V.

Can it be connected directly to a PLC?

Yes, provided the PLC's analog input is compatible with the selected signal. The TE1 is designed to directly provide standardized voltage or current signals.

What tours are available?

The version with a stem is available in 25, 50, 75, 100, and 150 mm. The spring-loaded probe is available up to 100 mm.

What is the difference between the TE1 and a conventional linear potentiometer?

The TE1 uses potentiometric technology to measure position, but also incorporates conditioning electronics that transform the measurement into an industrial 0–10 V or 4–20 mA signal. This simplifies its connection to PLCs and acquisition systems.

TE1 linear sensor selection and configuration

He Novotechnik TE1 It is particularly suitable when a short run needs to be measured using a linear displacement sensor with direct output 4–20 mA or 0–10 V.

To select the reference, the required travel, the execution with stem or probe, the output signal, the increasing or decreasing direction, and the connection via M8x1 or cable must be defined.

For applications directly exposed to dust or water, it should be noted that the TE1 has protection. IP40. When a more protected potentiometric sensor is needed, alternatives such as the Novotechnik TX2 IP67, using appropriate signal conditioning when 0–10 V or 4–20 mA is required.

Consult us about the application and we can supply the TE1 with the appropriate routing, output and connection.
