Long travel wire displacement sensor 6–12 m DLE-L
- Manufacturer: DPF Sensors
- Category: Displacement, Linear Cable Encoder, Linear Encoders, Linear by thread, SENSORS, Wire displacement sensors
He DPF Sensors DLE-L long travel wire displacement sensor It allows measuring position, stroke, and linear movement in paths of 6,000, 8,000, 10,000 and 12,000 mm. Its retractable cable mechanism converts mechanical displacement into pulses by means of a incremental encoder, providing a simple solution for measuring large displacements in machinery, lifting systems, telescopic mechanisms and handling equipment.
It is available with resolutions of 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm per pulse, equivalent to 1, 2, 5 or 10 pulses per millimeter, and can be supplied with output electronics Push-Pull or Line Driver. The incremental A and B signals allow the determination of displacement and direction of movement, while the Z channel provides a reference signal for control systems, PLCs, high-speed counters, and data acquisition equipment.
- Available tours: 6, 8, 10 and 12 m.
- Resolutions: 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm/pulse.

Applications of the long-travel wire displacement sensor
He DLE-L wire encoder It is designed to measure linear movements of several meters and is especially useful when it is necessary to know the position or stroke of large moving parts. Its applications include:
- Height and position measurement on lifting platforms, freight elevators and long-travel lifting systems.
- Control of extension of telescopic arms, cranes, manipulators and extendable mechanisms.
- Position tracking of carriages, gantries and linear axes in large machinery.
- Measurement of opening and closing in industrial doors, gates, doors and long-travel enclosures.
- Stroke control in overhead cranes, handling systems and material handling equipment.
- Monitoring movement in automated storage systems, stacker cranes and vertical warehouses.
- Test benches and testing machinery that require recording linear displacements of several meters.
- Acquisition of position and direction of movement using incremental encoder with Push-Pull output or Line Driver.
Travel distances of 6 to 12 meters and available resolutions
The sensor is configured by selecting the path and resolution required for the application. Four resolutions are available for paths of 6, 8, 10, and 12 meters.
| PATH AND RESOLUTION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Route | Available resolutions | Pulses per millimeter |
| 6,000 mm | 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm/pulse | 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 |
| 8,000 mm | 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm/pulse | 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 |
| 10,000 mm | 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm/pulse | 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 |
| 12,000 mm | 1 / 0.5 / 0.2 / 0.1 mm/pulse | 1 / 2 / 5 / 10 |
The resolution indicates the displacement corresponding to each pulse generated by the encoder and should not be confused with absolute measurement accuracy. The declared repeatability of the DLE-L is ±0.05 % of the full scale and ±1 count.
Push-Pull or Line Driver output and PLC integration
He incremental encoder generates square wave signals with phases A and B offset by 90°, allowing the control system to calculate both the displacement and the direction of movement. The phase Z provides an additional reference signal.
The DLE-L can be configured with electronics Push-Pull (P) either Line Driver (H). The selection must be made based on the type of input available on the PLC, high-speed counter, motion controller, or data acquisition system.
The Line Driver version uses differential signals A, /A, B, /B, Z, and /Z, improving immunity to electrical noise when the receiving equipment has compatible differential inputs. The sensor's power supply is... 5–26 VDC.
| LINE DRIVER CONNECTION | ||

The declared level of protection is IP64 for the encoder housing only. This limitation must be taken into account when selecting the mounting point and the environmental conditions of the installation.
DLE-L references and version selection
The reference identifies the travel, resolution, and output electronics. The suffix P corresponds to Push-Pull and the suffix H This corresponds to Line Driver.

Frequently Asked Questions about the DLE-L Wire Encoder
What is the maximum travel of the DLE-L thread sensor?
The longer-range version allows you to measure up to 12,000 mm (12 meters). There are also versions of 6, 8 and 10 meters.
What resolution does it offer?
You can select from 1; 0.5; 0.2 and 0.1 mm per pulse. The resolution of 0.1 mm/pulse is equivalent to 10 pulses per millimeter.
Is it an absolute position sensor?
No. The DLE-L uses a incremental encoder. The control system determines the displacement by counting pulses and uses phases A and B to identify the direction of movement.
Can I connect it directly to a PLC?
Yes, provided the PLC has a high-speed counter or encoder input compatible with the selected electronics, Push-Pull or Line Driver, and supports the pulse frequency generated by the application.
What is the difference between Push-Pull and Line Driver?
These are two different types of output electronics. The version must be selected according to the electrical characteristics of the input of the PLC, counter, or controller to which the sensor will be connected.
What data is needed to select a reference?
Primarily the required travel distance, the desired resolution, the maximum travel speed, and the type of input available on the PLC or acquisition system.
How does it differ from the DLE-HR?
The DLE-L is oriented to large displacements of 6 to 12 meters, while the High-resolution DLE-HR It covers distances from 1 to 5 meters and allows for considerably finer resolutions.
