VARIVENT® Biofilm Sensor Connection

The ALVIM AS01S3 sensor is an advanced biofilm monitoring solution designed for hygienic and highly demanding industrial environments. It connects directly to the process using a VARIVENT® Type N hygienic flange (for DN40–DN150 pipes) and features a flat surface in contact with the fluid, making it ideal for industries where cleanliness is critical, such as food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical or cosmetics. Its main electrodes are made of coated titanium and stainless steel (with a VARIVENT connector, also made of stainless steel), and uses PEEK insulators and EPDM seals. This combination of materials ensures high chemical resistance to cleaning agents and CIP treatments, allowing for continuous use in automated cleaning-in-place systems. Furthermore, the AS01S3 is ultra-sensitive: it can detect the formation of the first bacterial layer on the sensor surface, providing early warning before the biofilm reaches alarming levels.

The AS01S3 offers both analog and digital signaling for easy integration into control systems. It features a 4–20 mA current output and RS485 (Modbus RTU) digital communication compatible with industrial PLCs/SCADA. It comes with monitoring software and a user manual, which speeds up commissioning and field deployment. This connectivity allows, for example, to complement traditional laboratory analysis and enhance HACCP quality systems. Thanks to this, operators can automate cleaning and maintenance cycles: continuous sensor detection provides real-time information on the presence of bacteria, optimizing downtime and reducing chemical use. In practice, this translates into a rapid return on investment, as it provides early warning of blockages or bacterial contamination, reducing associated operating and energy costs.
